12 Days of Christmas Ornaments - Day 1: Paper Bulbs

We don't have a tree yet, but I'm already busy making Christmas decorations. This year I decided to do a series - one ornament (or type of ornament) a day for the next 12 week days, making some decorations I've found online and creating a few of my own.

This first one is from Martha Stewart. I love the idea of making these from old holiday cards, but any heavyweight paper will do. I started by making one as an experiment, and ended up with a full dozen!

I used some of the red and green card stock that came in this pack I bought for Abe's birthday bunting. The cards were about 6¼ x 4¼ inches. I used my paper cutter to cut strips ¾" wide. Some I cut the long way (6¼"), some the short way (4¼"), and I trimmed a few of the long ones to about 5½" long.

Once the strips were cut, I punched holes in both ends...

...inserted brads...

...bent the strips into a C (and then pulled half of them around to make an O)...

...and wiggled them apart to make a sphere.

I still need to tie strings around one end so I can hang them on the tree, but that can wait til we get the tree up. And when the tree comes down...I'll just fold them flat and pack them away!

If you'd like to get a sneak peek of other projects I'm working on, follow me on Tumblr!
