I'm starting my Christmas ornament series a little late this year (and I'm including all Christmas decor, not just tree decorations), but I'm still hoping to get at least 12 posts in before Christmas so let's get started!
First things first, I made us a new advent calendar. I still love our little box advent calendar from a couple years ago, but when I saw this one from Most Lovely Things I was totally smitten.
1. It was perfect for my new chalkboard wall.
2. It incorporated brown paper bags (and I'm a little bit obsessed with brown paper bags)!
3. Hanging the bags on the wall keeps them out of reach of curious little hands that would happily open ALL of the packages in one sitting.
To make the calendar, I found a font I liked (it's called Tangerine) and printed the numbers on regular paper. Then I transferred them to plain old lunch bags using carbon paper. (I'm sure there's easier ways to do it, but I have a stash of carbon paper that isn't going anywhere fast.) Once I had the carbon outlines on the bags, I just filled them in with a black Sharpie.
After the bags were filled with goodies, I used clothespins to hang them from the lines I strung up on our living room wall.
I didn't know what to do with the ends of my lines so I used my candy cane collection to finish them off. I also brought out my trees and our tiny house for a little more holiday decor, although I think I'll set up our nativity set on that table once I dig it out of storage.
As far as filling the bags, most of them have a small treat (Goldfish crackers, applesauce pouches, fruit snacks, chocolate reindeer grahams, or M&Ms), but in a few of them I put a Lego ornament, card game, or small handmade toy. In the past I've added Matchbox cars, individual pieces from our Little People nativity set (I think you can find that one cheaper at Target), and holiday finger puppets.
So that's how we're counting down the days to Christmas this year. Abe can barely wait. He keeps pulling out Christmas decorations saying "Merry Christmas everyone!" and singing "Santa Claus is coming to town..."
