12 Days of Christmas - Day 2: Tinsel Wreath

We still haven't painted our front door, and since our white feather wreath tends to blend in with the door, I made a more colorful tinsel wreath to use this year. I started looking for tinsel a few years ago (because I kind of miss it) but haven't had any luck until this year. I spotted a bunch of different kinds of tinsel at Target and considered a few classier, more neutral options...then I asked Abe which one I should get. Of course he liked the most colorful one of the bunch (I secretly did too), so that's what we went with.

I basically made it the same way as my DIY Feather Wreath, except I started by cutting a circle from double-walled cardboard instead of gluing two pieces of the regular stuff together, and instead of gluing the ends to the cardboard, I just cut a small slit at the edge and slid the tinsel wire through that to hold it in place. Also, the wreath is 14 inches across and the cardboard ring is 2 inches wide, so the finished wreath is a lot smaller than my feather wreath. Oh, and I managed to cover the entire wreath with just one $6 garland of tinsel! (It was 12 feet long in case you're wondering.)

I'll probably add a couple glass bulbs once I get those unpacked and maybe a string of lights... There aren't enough hours of daylight in Minnesota this time of year so twinkly lights are a necessity.

  1. We need a new front door so bad. Our current one is painted black on the outside which goes with our black shutters. I really don't feel like painting a door and was wondering how it would look if I kept the door store bought white... thoughts?

  4. I love your wreath - it inspired me to make one of my own. I already had that tinsel - I couldn't resist it when I saw it at Target a week or so ago -- you can check out my version at my blog - http://thepolkadotchicken.blogspot.com/

Thanks for sharing your beautiful creation!
